Standard 3: Plan for and implement effective teaching & learning

A planning web for a unit on ‘Time’ for a Kindergarten classroom which demonstrates that assessment is an integral part of the teaching and learning cycle and an effective strategy to evaluate and improve teaching programs.

Throughout my placement, unit plans with assessment clearly linked to outcomes and variation of assessment strategies was a key strategy I employed to assess and improve my teaching program. Reflection is an integral part of effective teaching, and analysis of assessment data not only shed light on students’ performance but also highlighted areas of strength and improvement in my program.

This strategy gained more importance to inform my future actions because the assessment data was collected from various forms of assessment – diagnostic, formative, and summative – and thus catered to a diverse range of learners with consistent and comparable analysis for evaluation of programs.
