Standard 5: Assess, provide feedback & report on student learning
5.3: Make consistent and comparable judgements
This is an assessment rubric that was used to evaluate kindergarten students’ knowledge and understanding in a unit on time, by comparing their level of achievement with a pre-designed continuum of understanding which is consistent for all students.

This assessment rubric was used throughout the unit to assess the content competence of students, as a formative assessment. It facilitated my judgment of students’ learning by having a predetermined focus to assess and compare the level of achievement with an established continuum of success in three broad categories: competent, developing competence, and needing further guidance. This rubric not only informed authentic judgement for comparisons with the given criteria, but also provided consistency in judgement because all students were assessed with the same criteria for assessment.
