Standard 5: Assess, provide feedback & report on student learning
5.5: Report on student achievement
This is a cumulative review of students administered at the end of the term as part of the literacy program (IntiaLit Foundation) followed by the school during my placement. The results of this assessment are used to report to parents and students about their achievements in the fundamentals of literacy.
Assessment, reporting, and feedback about students’ achievement, if used purposefully, can play a pivotal role in ensuring that students take charge of their own learning, as highlighted by NESA (2019). Moreover, effective collaboration with parents requires frequent sharing of accurate and reliable information about students’ performance to develop constructive partnerships with parents and students in their learning journey, and its benefits cannot be over-emphasised (Ground-Water, Smith, Ewing & Le Cornu 2015). I therefore ensured that students are assessed for their learning with the objectives of the unit planned and their achievement was reported to them and to their parents through reliable and accurate records of data of students’ achievements in classroom projects, evident through the cumulative assessment records of students’ progress. This comprehensive assessment not only recorded fundamental components of literacy, but also the overall progress of students’ achievement. Students’ work samples and detailed comments were also added in the final report to complement the assessment and analysis.
