Professional Engagement
Standard 7: Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers, and the community

 A part of a placement assessment report by my supervising teacher commenting on my professional practice, demonstrating my enthusiasm to engage with colleagues, parents/carers, and community members in compliance with the Code of Ethics and Conduct for the teaching profession provided by the NSW Department of Education and Communities.

The Code of Conduct for teachers draws upon the NSW Department of Education and Communities’ (NSWDEC) Statement of Ethics and the values that underpin it: fairness, respect, integrity, and responsibility. NSWDEC (2014) provides teachers with the guidelines and expected behaviour to follow and make rational judgments and decisions in line with this code. 
The supervising teacher’s comments demonstrate my ability to professionally engage with colleagues, parents/carers and the community to improve my practice further, by upholding the values established in the Code of Conduct. I displayed ‘Respect’ in my interactions with different stakeholders and developed trust/ ‘Integrity’ by being ‘Fair’ in my dealings for a cooperative relationship, supporting our overall ‘Responsibility’ for children’s wellbeing.
